Eye Exam Children
The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends annual exams for children beginning at 6 months of age. These exams should be performed even sooner, if there are symptoms such as a turned eye, irregular eye movements, or white pupil.
Despite the fact infants can not read an eye chart, there are objective tests such as ophthalmoscopy and retinoscopy that will help Dr. Thompson to determine the state of eye health and refractive status. As children mature, they may be able to read picture eye charts, and of course they will eventually read the standard letter chart. OHIP covers eye exams every year for children up to the age of 20 years.
Dr. Thompson has a lot of experience working with young children and our office is equipped with a play area (the Kid’s Pit) to amuse them while waiting. We also have an extensive selection of children’s eye wear.
