Head Injury and Stroke
Those with head injuries, strokes or other neurological conditions often have serious problems with visual skills and perceptual skills. A neuro-optometric assessment is similar to a perceptual assessment but addresses some additional issues. During this comprehensive eye exam we do an in depth case history including relating to employment, hobbies, driving, and activities of daily living. Examination of the internal and external structures of the eye, refractive analysis, tracking, binocularity, depth perception, focusing at near, peripheral vision testing, visual perceptual skills, auditory perceptual skills screening, visualization, midline shift, copying will be tested.
Often there is muscle paresis or paralysis, difficulties with dry eye, memory loss, neurological damage and difficulties with a number of visual skills that interfere with day to day life. People who have had closed head injuries often suffer from Post Trauma Vision Syndrome. The assessment takes up to 2 hours to complete. Please contact the office for information on fees for this type of assessment. In the case of MVA’s, insurance companies will be billed directly for this type of assessment, if arranged beforehand. Please print off and complete the checklist of signs and symptoms. Be sure to bring this to the assessment. Visit www.nora.cc for more information.
