Perceptual Exam

If a child or adult has learning disabilities, dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, poor motor control or difficulty in performing at school, this assessment is strongly suggested.

Print off and complete the check list of signs and symptoms to determine if this testing is appropriate. Bring the completed checklist and other pertinent information to the appointment. We not only perform an eye exam (eye health check, refractive analysis, and visual skills assessment), we also do an in depth case history and evaluation including school performance issues, and detailed peripheral vision testing. Laterality (dominance), visual perceptual skills, auditory perceptual skills screening, visualization, midline shift, copying skills will be tested.

At the end of the exam Dr. Thompson or Dr. Peddle may recommend home or office Vision Therapy procedures, corrective lenses, ergonomic changes for home or school. Environmental and food sensitivities that may affect visual skills will also be considered. A report will be provided and telephone consultation with the teacher will be available if needed.

Please allow an hour and a half for the appointment. These appointments are scheduled in the morning or early afternoon. If you can’t make the appointment, please call us 24 hours in advance to cancel. The cost of the extra testing, report and consultation is not covered by OHIP. The extra cost is usually covered by insurance carriers.
