Trish

Vision Therapist

Trish graduated from Sheridan’s Medical Assistant's Program in 1978. At that time she began work in a chiropractor's office worked and then switched to a family physician's office where she was promoted to office manager. Later she became an education assistant at Brampton Christian Schools. Trish taught skating many years in Brampton.

Trish has been involved in the practice starting as a bookkeeper in the practice in 1990. In 2011 she trained as a vision therapist with courses under the direction of the Optometric Extension Program.

Cathy

Optometric Assistant

Cathy joined our Team in 2015, bringing with her 17 years of experience in the medical device industry.

She is currently responsible for assisting our patients with booking appointments, running diagnostic vision tests and dispensing eyeglasses. She has a unique interest and perspective when assisting our patients with all of their visual needs, as she herself has been in eyeglasses since she was just an infant.

Cathy is married with two grown sons. She loves spending time at her cottage in the Haliburton Highlands, socialising with family and friends.

Denise

Lab Technician

Denise joined our team in August of 2015 bringing with her 25 years of experience in the field of optometry. She completed the Certified Optometric Assistants Program in 2000, and has attended numerous continuing education courses.

She enjoys helping patients select the appropriate frame and lenses that best suit them and adjusts them for the most comfortable fit. Quite often being able to provide same day service with our in office edging lab.

Denise enjoys spending time in the garden, reading and has a cat. She tries to get back to the East coast as much as possible to visit family and friends, which is where she grew up.

Christina (Criss)

Optometric Assistant

Criss joined the team in May of 2017. She has been working in the eye care industry since 2011 and brings with her a wealth of experience. Criss graduated from the School of Make-Up Art and worked as an cosmetics education specialist for seven years. Criss is originally from Vaughan and still lives there. She likes yoga and has a Yorkie named Harley.

Toni

Vision Therapist

Toni Winchester entered the optometry field since 2004 as a Co-Op student in high school with only one request: TO HELP PEOPLE! Toni has a plethora of hands on experience working alongside optometrists and ophthalmologists in clinic and surgical settings, providing her with good understanding of the vision health & development. To further Toni’s hand on experience, she also has a diploma in Addictions and Community Service which assist her in building meaningful relationships and good rapport with our vision therapy patients. Toni also holds a diploma in Occupational Therapy/ Physiotherapy Assistance, this helps relate directly to her assisting and understanding of how patients’ daily lives have been affected by their disorders and how it can be improved. Toni is also the parent of a special needs child which gives her a different dynamic perspective and love for working with children with and without exceptionalities. With all of these skills and experience it was an easy transition into the Vision Therapy field.

At Thompson Optometry, Toni’s uses her education and experience when working alongside the other therapists and doctors to help patients build connections between the brain and the visual system. Toni has started training with the Optometric Extension Program foundation and is working toward her certification as a Vision Therapist. Toni’s number one goal is to help patients to reach their full potential in life and learning.

COVID-19 Update:

Dr. Greg Thompson and Dr Rick Thompson are seeing patients for urgent and emergency eye care problems by appointment during the COVID-19 situation. This includes eye infections, sore or painful eyes, sudden vision changes, and broken eye glasses for those with strong prescriptions. For urgent problems please call our cell phone at 437-388-1136. We can solve many problems over the phone, or see patients in our clinic if necessary.

For routine eye care, we will be scheduling patients when we get further instructions from the College of Optometrists of Ontario. For non-urgent messages, please email us at office@drrickthompson.ca or call 905-793-2020.
